On April 23, 2025, the Shanghai New International Expo Centre hosted the China Selection Competition for the Global University Challenge—an inspiring and dynamic event focused on addressing critical environmental challenges. The goal: to select a champion team to represent China at the 2026 Global University Challenge, which will take place during IFAT Munich, the world’s leading trade fair for environmental technologies, in May 2026.
This prestigious competition was co-organized by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA), the College of Environmental Science and Engineering at Tongji University, the National Engineering Research Center for Urban Pollution Control at Tongji University, the Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences, and IE expo China.
33 young environmental talents from leading Chinese universities, including Tongji University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Tianjin University participated in this high-level event. Tianjin University sent 3 students (Nicole Kueh Shian Maun, Ling Chen and Dai Yu Bin) to work as a team in this competition. In which, with their combine efforts they won third place in the competition.
